My therapeutic training integrates several dynamic approaches to helping people make positive changes in their lives and navigate difficult life circumstances. My graduate work emphasized a systemic or holistic approach to therapy, that is, exploring the nature of our relational life – relationships to our intimates, family, friends and ultimately, environment. From this I bring a keen sense of the common and painful difficulties couples and families face, and pathways to constructive change, especially in the arena of communication breakdown.
Integrated into this relational approach, I draw upon my experience as long time meditation student and teacher, guiding mindfulness and somatic awareness with my clients, and calling attention to the important role the body plays when we’re distressed and have suffered from traumatic experience. When appropriate, I also find the activity of therapeutic play and imagination, exemplified by sandtray, active imagination, or dream exploration, works for many clients to create a needed shift where our “thinking mind” has been unable to solve our problems. Working together, we find the approach that best suits your needs, affinities and concerns.
